Preparing for your licence

Before you get your learner or provisional licence there are a few things you have to do to prepare.

Learner licence

To get your learner’s licence in Queensland you must be 16 years old.
Before you get your learners you will need to pass a road rules test. For information on the current road rules, go the Department of Transport and Main Roads > Road rules.

You can also try our Free2Go practice learners test as part of your study. When you’re ready you’ll need specific documents in order to sit your test. Follow the simple steps at Free2Go > Drive > Learning to drive > Getting your Learners Licence.

Provisional licences

To get your P1 licence you must be 17 years old and have logged 100 hours of supervised driving time.
Once you have your hours you can submit them to the TMR a minimum of 12 business days before your practical driving test.

You must drive on your P1 licence for a minimum of 12 months before applying for your P2. Visit our Free2Go website for a step by step guide to applying for your P1 and P2 licence.
